Leading brands like Audi, BMW, Liberty Global, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, and ZF choose HiveMQ to build smarter IoT projects, modernize factories, and create better customer experiences.

HiveMQ is a remote-first company headquartered in Landshut, Germany, with a US office. The last time we counted, we spoke 32 languages within our diverse team at HiveMQ. We are looking for innovative, motivated, and passionate individuals to join our rapidly growing company.

About the Role

HiveMQ’s Product Development organization is responsible for building and maintaining our core products and open-source ecosystem.

We are looking for an experienced (Senior) Engineering Manager to lead our Edge team, which develops and maintains HiveMQ Edge - a software-based Edge MQTT Gateway. HiveMQ Edge bridges the gap between Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) by translating diverse industrial protocols into standardized MQTT, modernizing IIoT infrastructure, and enabling seamless edge-to-cloud integration.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead, mentor, and scale a team of talented engineers to drive technical excellence and ensure the successful delivery of HiveMQ Edge. As a young and evolving product, Edge presents a unique opportunity for you to shape its vision, define priorities, and build a high-performing team that thrives on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

You will…

  • Guide, mentor, and support a team of passionate engineers, fostering career growth, skill development, and high performance.
  • Own product and value delivery in close collaboration with the Product Manager, ensuring alignment with customer needs and the open source community.
  • Work with product and engineering leadership, product managers, and engineers to define clear goals, objectives, and priorities for the team.
  • Break down roadblocks as well as manage communications with stakeholders and other teams. Create a culture of continuous improvement through retrospection.
  • Help define and own team metrics, KPIs alongside the data and means to measure them.
  • Drive quality accountability within the organization with well-defined processes and rituals. This includes leading effective postmortems and ensuring actions are followed-up.
  • Contribute to the overall HiveMQ platform, technical and engineering strategy and direction of HiveMQ.
  • Live a culture of teamwork, quality, growth and bias for action.

You have…

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing product teams in technology companies.
  • Extensive experience in developing high quality software for the JVM
  • Experience with IT/OT convergence and an understanding of the IIoT domain with topics like IIoT protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, S7 or similar), SCADA and MES, data aggregation, predictive maintenance and industrial automation.
  • A belief in a servant leadership mentality, but also the ability to lead from the front when needed
  • Excellent communication skills and an outstanding work ethic
  • Deep understanding of modern agile software engineering methodologies
  • Ability to work with customer requirements and experience collaborating with customer success, sales and other product teams.
  • A systematic but pragmatic approach paired with a high sense of ownership and pride in the work you accomplish as a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
