Job Summary
The Athletic is seeking a Colleges Student Intern for its Leon H. Carter newsroom internship program. The 12-week remote internship will run from August/September to November 2025 and expose the intern to every facet of the newsroom. As an intern, you will provide coverage of college football teams, attend brainstorming sessions, and work collaboratively with other reporters. You will also have the opportunity to shape our most informative coverage and advance our goal to be the top destination for sports news around the world. The internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students, including juniors and seniors, and requires a 30-40 hour work week. Previous newsroom internship experience is a plus. Job Description
Responsibilities
- Provide coverage of a college football team during the season, inclusive of news, features and game stories.
- Attend brainstorming sessions and pitch ideas to the editor and colleagues.
- Have great news judgment, along with an ability to source build.
- Multitask across multiple story endeavors and prioritize accordingly.
- Write quick news stories and provide analysis for a variety of platforms.
- Work collaboratively with other reporters.
Requirements
- Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply; undergraduate juniors and seniors preferred. Ability to work a 30-40 hour work week.
- Previous newsroom internship experience is a plus.
- Flexibility: ability to adapt to fast-paced work environments where needs and priorities can change quickly.
- Deep knowledge of and a passion for sports.
- This is a remote internship that will require some travel to New York City.
