Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, our Controller will oversee accounting and financial operations at CareMessage. This individual will be responsible for owning financial close processes, leading our external audit and tax filing projects, managing the accounts payable function, and optimizing internal controls and systems. The ideal candidate will be a thought partner to finance leadership and have the desire to branch out into areas like budgeting, forecasting, SaaS metrics, grant administration, and strategic finance. 

Requirements:

  • You have 5+ years of accounting and finance experience, with 2+ years in a senior accounting role (Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or equivalent) and have the CPA certification

  • You have strong understanding of GAAP and financial controls, including ASC 606 revenue recognition

  • You have experience managing financial operations

  • You are proficient in Quickbooks, Excel, and Google Suite and are familiar with or able to quickly learn other financial and accounting tools (Brex, Tipalti, Mosaic, etc.)

  • You are highly organized and detail-oriented

  • You are proactive and driven to learn about CareMessage’s operations and identify ways to help it scale

  • You have strong communication skills and are able to collaborate effectively across the organization

Preferred Experience:

  • You have experience working in audit at a Big 4 or other large accounting firm

  • You have experience working in B2B SaaS or technology at a startup

  • You have knowledge of nonprofit accounting or are excited to learn it

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the accounting function, including executing month-end close and producing timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP

  • Track deferred revenue, software development capitalization & amortization, and temporarily restricted net assets (TRNA)

  • Supervise the accounting, invoicing, and collections activities performed by the Finance and Operations Associate

  • Own the accounts payable function and new vendor onboarding

  • Complete quarterly revenue share reconciliations for industry partners

  • Manage our annual external financial audit and tax filings and ensure timely completion

  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure expenses are properly tracked and categorized for budget purposes

  • Ensure adherence to internal controls

  • Identify and implement new systems and processes, to streamline and automate financial processes and reporting to support growth

Within 1 Month you’ll:

  • Gain a foundational understanding of our business, customers, vendors, and partners

  • Meet key internal stakeholders and begin to understand existing processes

  • Transition financial close responsibilities from current fractional controller

Within 3 Months you’ll:

  • Fully own accounting at CareMessage

  • Have the financial statements audit-ready

  • Transition accounts payable function and quarterly reconciliations from the Senior Director of Finance

  • Become an internal resource to department heads for finance and accounting questions

Within 6 Months you’ll:

  • Understand the different reporting needs of our internal and external stakeholders and develop different reporting packages to satisfy them

  • Identify and start implementing process and tool improvements to automate, streamline, and strengthen accounting operations and internal controls

  • Branch out into other adjacent areas like payroll, treasury, budgeting, grant operations, etc. to enhance your understanding and impact

$135,700 - $135,700 a year

This role is currently set at a Senior Manager level (L3), equivalent to someone who has held multiple accounting roles with related experience for several years and is extremely proficient in their craft.

Our salary allocation for this role is $135,700.
