Job Summary

We're seeking a Director of Packaging - Structural Design to join our Industrial and Packaging Design Team. As a corrugated and wet pulp-molded design expert, you'll lead the development of next-generation products and services that improve people's lives. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage projects, and ensure high-quality printed materials aligning with our brand standards. With 10+ years of structural packaging design experience, you'll thrive in a fast-paced environment, utilizing your expertise in packaging technologies, structural design principles, and industry trends. Our benefits include competitive salary & equity compensation, unlimited PTO, comprehensive health benefits, and employee discounts.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Director of Packaging - Structural Design with an outstanding design portfolio to join our Industrial and Packaging Design Team. You are a corrugated and wet pulp-molded design expert passionate about designing next-generation products and services that improve people’s lives. You are comfortable tackling all aspects of the design process, from user research to design detailing and delivery. You are by nature, a conceptual thinker, always iterating and prototyping to learn. You are comfortable helping teams come together to deliver amazing experiences – and as such, you are extremely comfortable socializing, initiating and driving the processes, collaborations, negotiations and delivery these experiences require with an open, humble and collaborative attitude – focused on helping everyone reach incredible outcomes.

You have extensive expertise in structural packaging design, corrugated technology, strategic thinking,  and project management to ensure the delivery of high-quality printed materials that align with our brand standards. Like us, you believe design can be used to form defensible moats and competitive advantages in our mission to make Healthcare seamless and accessible. You’ve shown that physical products can provide value while looking good. You obsess over details (sometimes more than you should) and you think visually in a way that brings stakeholders along your journey. You do all this because you obsess over the best experiences, continually striving to push your craft to the next level. If your happy place is tuning out distractions and zoning into the work, we’d love to give you the space and freedom to flex your craft on the exciting new challenges we’re taking on in healthcare.

You are a player-coach whose primary objective is to unblock situations so you and your small team can get on with the work and turn ideas into realities. Your day-to-day creative influence translates the executive design vision into the team's work. When not managing, you are hands-on, designing with the highly skilled team and attracting, inspiring, and developing high-performing contributors.

You Will:

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Work closely with the design team, creating concepts, visualizing, and delivering structural packaging solutions with finely implemented details, including manufacturing limitations, printed boxes, magazines, collaterals…

  • Create, communicate, and implement a vision and strategy for our corrugated and pulp-molded packaging with cross-functional teams, aligning it with organizational goals and industry best practices.

  • Provide visionary leadership to the industrial and packaging team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Connect, inform, propose ideas, and collaborate regularly with the Head of Industrial and Packaging Design on creative direction, strategy, and future initiatives.

Team:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of structural packaging designers.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.

  • Attract, interview, and hire to support the team and the business.

Project Coordination:

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including our fulfillment, sourcing and distribution teams, and product development teams, to understand packaging requirements and deliver projects on time and within budget.

  • Coordinate with external agencies and partners to execute creative and effective structural packaging solutions.

Process Optimization

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and implement best practices.

  • Oversee the entire structural packaging design lifecycle, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Quality Assurance:

  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to guarantee all packaging materials' accuracy, consistency, and excellence.

  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

Vendor Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and ensure adherence to quality and delivery standards.

  • Help evaluate and select new vendors as needed, staying informed about industry trends and emerging technologies.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design, packaging, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.

  • 10+ years of structural packaging design experience with bringing multiple products to the market.

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within structural packaging or related industries.

  • In-depth knowledge of packaging technologies, structural design principles, and industry trends.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and technologies. Illustrator, CAD software of choice (Solidworks, PTC Creo..), Keyshot (or other 3D visualization tool)

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

  • Strong portfolio of cutting-edge design with strong visual acuity and formal literacy, that proves not only solid design skills but also forward-thinking.

  • Ideal candidate understands the latest technologies and manufacturing processes and how to implement them best and has a proven understanding of engineering and sustainability.

  • Well-versed in user-centered design methods, testing, and techniques.

  • Willingness to take direction and learn from others.

  • Enjoys an autonomous working style and believes in collaboration in a multi-disciplinary design environment.
