Job Summary
Gurobi Optimization is seeking a MIP Development Scholar to join their team. The 2-year program provides training in mathematical optimization technology, focusing on linear programming and mixed-integer programming (MIP) theory, algorithm experience, practical modeling, C programming, and computational experiments. As a scholar, you will work with the Gurobi Expert - Technical Advisory and Support Team, then transition to the MIP Development Team, where you'll contribute to enhancing user experience, model tuning, and developing technical resources. The program aims to equip you with expertise in the Gurobi Solver, setting you up for success in a technical role at Gurobi or academia/industry. You will learn from internal and external perspectives, design and implement new algorithms, write tests, and interact with users through forums and support channels. To be eligible, you must have a Master's degree in operations research, computer science, or similar discipline, proficiency in programming languages like Python, Java, C, or C++, and excellent communication skills.
What will you be doing?
- Learn about the Gurobi Optimizer from internal and external perspective, which includes some customer interaction.
- Learn all about our core MIP Engine and how to develop code for it.
- Design, implement and benchmark new algorithmic ideas.
- Proactively identify and resolve bugs detected in the code, ensuring the stability and integrity of the Gurobi product.
- Write tests to ensure that new algorithms and functionalities work correctly and reliably.
- Write technical articles and documentation, interact with users of Gurobi through our forums and our support channels.
- Develop materials for use in presentations at events, conferences, and training sessions.
- Present new product features and capabilities at technical conferences, fostering engagement with Gurobi users.
What experience and qualifications should you have?
- Proficient in both written and verbal English.
- Proficient in one or more programming languages like Python, Java, C, or C++
- Master's degree in operations research, computer science, or similar discipline/experience (Ph.D. preferred).
What skills and abilities should you have?
- Passion for programming.
- Ability to self-educate from online material and trial-and-error exercises.
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Linear algebra theory knowledge.
- Basic system administration skills (Linux).
- Any previous knowledge about the topics that you will learn (see below) is a plus.
