The Principal, Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a strategic leadership role that plays a critical role in aligning HR strategies with business objectives to drive organizational success. This role partners directly with executive team members and their senior leadership teams to develop and implement people strategies and plans that align with Pinterest’s goals. The Principal, HRBP serves as the lead, overseeing key initiatives and projects at the functional level and providing project leadership for multi-functional and Pinterest-wide initiatives. This role is instrumental in creating and driving alignment with People team Centers of Excellence and setting expectations for functional priorities, work plans, and long-term strategies. This role will manage a team of HRBPs, ensuring clear communication of strategies, priorities, and performance expectations.  This role supports our “Tech Foundations” team, which is composed of IT, Security, Cloud Infrastructure, Site Reliability Engineers and Data Engineering. This role sits on the Tech HRBP Leadership team.

What you'll do:

  • Strategic HR Partnership

    • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand business goals and develop HR strategies that support those objectives.

    • Influence and contribute to the business strategy by providing insights on people trends and their impact on business performance.

    • Drive the integration and alignment of HR initiatives with business plans.

    • Provide strategic business partnership, thought partnership, and coaching to all levels of the organization.

  • Talent Management

    • Lead talent management activities (succession planning, leadership development) for your assigned group.

    • Identify and address talent gaps to ensure a pipeline of high-potential employees.

    • Manage and facilitate the Performance Cycle and employee engagement throughout the year

  • Organizational Development

    • Assess organizational needs and design and implement programs to drive change and improve effectiveness.

    • Champion initiatives that foster an inclusive culture.

    • Leads organizational design and restructuring efforts to meet strategic goals.

  • Partners closely with Employee Relations Partners 

    • Address employee concerns in a timely and effective manner.

    • Investigate and resolve complex employee relations issues.

    • Implement effective performance management processes to drive results and development.

  • Partner with Total Rewards 

    • Compensation - Ensure competitive and equitable compensation structures.

    • Benefits - Provide feedback/voice of the employee to the Benefits team to ensure Pinterest’s offerings are competitive and are aligned with employee needs and business goals.

  • Change Management

    • Lead and manage change initiatives by demonstrating a hands-on approach to effective execution.

  • Metrics and Analytics

    • Utilize HR metrics and analytics to inform decision-making and measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives.

    • Proactively provide high value data-driven insights to senior leaders to drive strategic decisions.

  • Leadership and Team Development

    • Promote continuous learning and development within the HR team and the broader organization.

    • Sets functional goals and inspires the function to commit to these actions and to aim for extraordinary to achieve the organization's goals.

    • Sets performance expectations, delivers developmental feedback and coaches the team to drive increased performance; takes appropriate corrective action where necessary for continued underperformance. 

    • Participate and lead projects as an integral member of the extended HR community

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role as an HR Business Partner or similar capacity.

  • High integrity and ethical standards.

  • Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity with confidence.

  • A proactive, results-oriented approach.

  • Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.

  • Strong business acumen and strategic planning abilities.

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.

  • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 4 times per year and as needed for client onsites and therefore can be situated on the west coast.
