The ideal candidate has 8+ years of direct product management experience, including 5+ years in building technical internal products for a medium-sized software engineering organization with a focus on Platform Engineering, Platform-as-a-Service, and/or Engineering Tooling. Gusto offers a cash compensation amount ranging from $181,000 to $262,000 per year, depending on location, experience, and expertise. We’re looking for high-autonomy, entrepreneurial Product Managers to come build high-impact solutions for small businesses and their employees. We believe in high-ownership Product Managers who operate like business owners - owning an entire roadmap end to end and shipping product all the way from strategy through to the nitty gritty details (some describe this kind of role as a “GM” type role).

About the Team:
Platform Orchestration is a newly formed team driving a key strategic initiative to transform our infrastructure capabilities into a self-service internal developer platform. Gusto’s goals of scaling and innovating are being hindered by our bespoke tooling and manual workflows. This role is critical for us to prioritize and execute on the capabilities that provide our 600+ engineers with Golden Paths and Paved Roads for them to deliver value to our customers. As the first Product Manager in the Infrastructure group, you will have an opportunity to mature our Platform Engineering initiatives and our entire engineering organization.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
Ownership: You will own the vision, strategy, and roadmap to transform Gusto’s Infrastructure group into a Platform Engineering organization
North Star: Build reliable workflows that allow engineers to independently interact with our setup and self-serve the infrastructure they need to run their apps and services
Collaborate: You will work closely with the 600+ Engineering ICs and leaders across Gusto to drive the roadmap for a highly visible initiative
Collaboration with multiple Engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders is essential. Must be available to work within PT or MT business hours
Infuse an Engineering-only team with a product mindset
Develop or utilize frameworks to assess ourselves and improve the maturity of our Platform Engineering capabilities
Here’s what we're looking for:
8+ years of direct product management experience, including 5+ years of building technical internal products for a medium sized software Engineering organization with a focus on Platform Engineering, Platform-as-a-Service, and/or Engineering Tooling
Has executed Engineering Organizational goals to improve engineering efficiency with demonstrated results
Successfully collaborated with Infrastructure, Security, IT, and Product Engineering teams on balancing engineering efficiency in alignment with compliance and security
Strong partnership with technical stakeholders in very technical domains
Experienced crafting a strategic vision and roadmaps, evangelizing your vision, and executing against it over multiple years
Comfortable with ambiguity
Successfully developed continuous feedback between customer insights and team priorities

Our cash compensation amount for this role is $181,000/yr to $223,000/yr in Denver & most major metro locations, and $212,000/yr to $262,000/yr for San Francisco, Seattle & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
