The Sr. Director will work closely with commercial teams to create customer stories, articles, case studies, white papers, research reports, and other forms of content that highlight industry trends, customer success, and technical insights. This is a leadership role that requires building, leading, and inspiring a high-performing team, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous learning. WordPress VIP is seeking a seasoned Sr. Director of Content Marketing with a strong background in technology and B2B storytelling to create high-impact, data-driven content that supports our growth, education, and retention goals. You will lead a team of content and creative writers to establish what excellent content marketing looks like. You will also be responsible for managing external contractors in the development of our video-first content strategy.

You are experienced in developing content that is thought-provoking, educational, and establishes WordPress VIP as a trusted thought leader in enterprise CMS, Analytics, and Hosting. You’re experienced in working with executive leaders to shape thought leadership ideas and opinions into content. 

The leader we seek might have a journalistic background or be relentless in their pursuit for creating no-jargon, no B.S. content. You have an eye for compelling narratives, and the ability to translate complex insights into engaging and informative content. The Sr. Director of Content Marketing will work closely with commercial teams to create customer stories, articles, case studies, white papers, research reports, and other forms of content that highlight industry trends, customer success, and technical insights.

You bring new ideas about how to leverage written and video content. You have experience creating customer storytelling programs that have a demonstrable impact on social channel engagement and reach. 

This role requires a mix of creativity, strategic thinking, and analytical acumen to translate data and technical information into persuasive, remarkable, and accessible narratives. You have expert skills in monitoring, measuring, and reporting on content performance, using insights to shape decision-making. You will lead your team to be customer-centric and insights-driven, ensuring our content speaks to our decision makers and drives pipeline growth. 

Responsibilities 

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration  

  • Develop a track record of setting and breaking pipeline and revenue targets.

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Craft high-quality, compelling B2B content, including customer stories, articles, research reports, and case studies that educate and engage our tech-savvy audience.

  • Develop clear, persuasive, and data-informed narratives that support growth initiatives, customer education, and retention.

  • Collaborate with product, marketing, and sales teams to align content with business priorities and communicate complex information effectively.

Data-Driven Insights & Analysis

  • Leverage data from multiple sources to uncover insights and inform content topics that resonate with target audiences, establishing thought leadership in the tech space.

  • Comfortable working directly in analytics in order to assess content performance and audience engagement, adjusting content strategies based on insights and trends.

  • Interpret industry research, survey findings, and insights to create content that speaks to key challenges and opportunities in the technology landscape.

Content Strategy & Optimization

  • Develop editorial calendars and content roadmaps that support key marketing goals and customer journeys.

  • Identify content gaps and opportunities for SEO-optimized content that addresses audience needs and drives organic traffic.

  • Experiment with content formats, headlines, and angles to optimize engagement, conversion, and retention.

Market & Industry Research

  • Conduct regular research on emerging tech trends, competitor content, and industry benchmarks to ensure our content is relevant, timely, and thought-provoking.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) within Automattic and WordPress VIP to develop a deep understanding of product offerings and customer pain points, producing content that reflects expertise and authority.

  • Stay updated on best practices for content marketing within the tech and B2B sectors, integrating findings into content strategy and execution.

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Several years of experience in content writing, with a focus on technology, CMS, commerce, or similarly complex B2B audiences.

  • A portfolio showcasing examples of B2B content, especially content that translates data into engaging and impactful stories.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data interpretation, ideally including proficiency with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and data visualization.

  • Demonstrated experience in content strategy, SEO, and an understanding of digital marketing metrics.

  • Familiarity with the technology industry, SaaS, or enterprise software, with a clear understanding of the language, trends, and challenges in the space.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a high degree of creativity and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, independently prioritizing tasks to meet business objectives.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $150,000-$220,000 USD.  Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.
