The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience as an individual contributor, 8+ years leading teams as an engineering manager, and at least 4+ years as a manager of managers. They should have relevant technical experience in consumer-facing mobile application, product backend business logic, machine learning systems, and strong execution skills. The Senior Engineering Director will oversee multiple teams, define the long-term technical roadmap, develop and implement engineering best practices, and provide technical guidance to team members. We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineering Director to lead one of our fast-growing Engineering organizations. This position will oversee our mobile applications, algorithm-heavy backend business logic, and proprietary machine learning systems that power our vehicle positioning systems and computer vision applications. 

As the Senior Engineering Director, you will be responsible for setting the technical direction and strategy for the area, and for ensuring the team delivers high-quality products on-time with limited resources. You will also be responsible for fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture, and for developing and mentoring team members to support their growth and development.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of success leading and managing multiple managers and teams of engineers, and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. They will also have strong cross-functional collaboration skills with product managers, data scientists, designers and operation teams to deliver high-quality products that exceed customer expectations.

What You'll Do:

    • Define the long-term technical roadmap and strategic vision, alongside key stakeholders such as product, design, data science and operation teams.
    • Lead and manage multiple teams of talented engineers to deliver on key business objectives.
    • Develop and implement engineering best practices and processes to drive quality, scalability, and innovation.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members to support their growth and development.
    • Continuously evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve product development and delivery.
    • Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of high-quality customer-facing products.

About You:

    • 7+ years of experience as an individual contributor; 8+ years leading teams as an engineering manager, and at least 4+ years as a manager of managers
    • Experience leading diverse, geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment
    • Relevant technical experience in at least one of the following areas: consumer-facing mobile application, product backend business logic, machine learning systems.
    • Owner’s mindset with strong execution. Have the passion and drive to apply engineering principles to solve complex, vague and sometimes urgent business problems
    • Experienced in working within high performing teams that consistently deliver business value and operationally excellent systems
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
    • Excellent communication and effective prioritization skills in working with competing priorities.

    • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ideally you are still hands-on with technology and enjoy casual coding or tinkering with current technologies.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $282,000 - $388,000. Annual performance bonus, equity and benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, depending on the position offered. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the candidate’s location of residence, the successful candidate's skills, experience and other qualifications. In addition to base salary, some roles may be eligible for a variable performance-bonus based on a combination of company performance, employee performance, and management discretion.
