The Senior Manager, Media Relations role at Rackspace Technology involves developing and implementing a comprehensive media strategy to achieve targeted top-tier earned media coverage. The candidate will manage global PR agency partners, ensure an investment mix that supports the strategy, and work closely with key stakeholders across the business to develop high-impact press announcements and outreach strategies. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in public relations and/or corporate communications, a proven track record of securing high-quality media coverage, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Media Relations: Establish and maintain positive relationships with key journalists, media outlets and industry influencers to secure impactful coverage aligned with organizational goals.
- Strategic Narrative Development: Craft and refine compelling narratives that support brand positioning and communicate business priorities clearly and effectively.
- Executive Communications: Partner with senior leaders to elevate executive visibility through thought leadership opportunities, speaking engagements, authored content, and social media positioning.
- Integrated Communications Planning: Collaborate closely with teams across Business Units, marketing, product, Investor Relations and HR to develop a strategic media relations plan and ensure consistency and alignment of messaging across all channels.
- Content Development: Author and edit a range of communications materials, including press releases, media statements, messaging documents, executive talking points and blog posts.
- Issues & Reputation Management: Support crisis and issues communication efforts with strategic counsel and appropriate messaging to mitigate risk and protect the company’s reputation.
- Performance Analysis: Monitor, measure, and report on media coverage and communication campaign efficiency, using insights to optimize future initiatives.
Qualifications
- 10 years minimum of experience in public relations and/or corporate communications preferably within a $1B+ annual revenue, complex or matrixed organization
- Experience in B2B technology and/or IT professional services
- Proven success in securing high-quality media coverage and building strong relationships with external customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into accessible, engaging content
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and influence customers at all levels of the organization
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a dynamic environment
- Familiarity with communications and media monitoring tools such as Cision, Meltwater, or equivalent
- Background in brand storytelling, content marketing, or strategic communications planning
- Ability to develop executive-level presentations and show impact to the business
