Job Summary

Eventbrite's Risk pillar is seeking a data analyst to design, implement, and track risk prevention policies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in SQL, statistical analysis, and Python programming. They will work with cross-functional teams to develop low-friction policies, collaborate on machine learning models, and drive analytical efforts to source data from Eventbrite's product features. With a strong focus on innovation and flexibility, this role offers opportunities for growth and technical leadership. The successful candidate will be part of a high-performing team working towards making Eventbrite the trusted marketplace for live experiences. They will have the chance to work with practical statistical analysis packages, including pandas, Microsoft Excel, and scripting in Python. With direct experience in an anti-abuse space or passion for live events, this role is ideal for those looking to make a meaningful impact. The salary range is $126k-$227k per year.

THE CHALLENGE

Eventbrite is a big, bustling marketplace where anyone can post an event in minutes or buy a ticket in seconds. The Risk pillar builds the guardrails that ensure our creators get paid and our attendees find amazing events. We ensure great experiences happen reliably and without unnecessary risks even as Eventbrite launches innovative features and expands into new markets across the world. Keeping ahead of fraudsters requires a balance of proactivity and reactivity with the agility to switch focus when necessary.  Our decision analysts make sure we keep up without our organizers noticing by designing low profile, high precision, data-driven solutions to the ever-changing landscape of threats.

THE TEAM

The Risk pillar is a high-performing, multi-disciplinary technical development collection of teams that includes data analysts, data scientists, product managers, and engineers. We work together toward the common goal of making Eventbrite the trusted marketplace for live experiences. We collaborate with product teams across the companies to control payment, content publication, and account security risks. Working in an ever-changing threat landscape, we are vigilant for emerging problems. We strive to build solutions through collaboration, building for flexibility, while staying focused on innovative solutions to these complex problems.

THE ROLE

You will design, implement, and track the risk prevention policies at the center of our risk detection and mitigation strategy. You will work with policy and operations experts to understand the details of what’s working well and where we have opportunities to fill gaps. You will drive analytical efforts to source data from Eventbrite’s wide variety of product features, and then leverage it to design effective, low friction policies. You will collaborate with colleagues in engineering to use our in-house decisioning platform to quickly design, test, and ship data-driven rules, and to implement improvements to that platform to move faster. You’ll work with data scientists to leverage and collaborate on improving machine learning and AI models. You will partner with other analytical teams to track the impact on the business as a whole.

THE SKILLSET

  • Proven ability to research and design data-driven policies, and to communicate findings to non-technical audiences including cross-functional decision makers.

  • Expertise with SQL including experience working in complex data environments (>7 years) with experience developing monitoring and dashboards, including design and maintenance of data transformations using tools such as DBT.

  • Command of a set of practical statistical analysis packages including pandas, Microsoft Excel, and/or similar tools.

  • Experience with data processing and scripting in Python including comfort with version control tools (e.g. git) and test-driven development (>5 years)

  • Comfort and interest in mentoring team members up to Senior level, and providing technical leadership over analytical projects

BONUS POINTS FOR

  • Direct experience in an anti-abuse space such as fraud, spam, content policy, or trust and safety

  • Experience working closely with machine learning and AI-driven teams and associated knowledge of statistics

  • Active Eventbrite user with a passion for live events
