About the Role:  

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Marketing at Planet is a high impact executive leadership role responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies for Planet’s core industries and segments that collectively reinforce a strong, differentiated company brand.  The ideal candidate will have an excellent background in marketing strategy and execution, brand development, and data-driven decision-making, with a proven track record of driving growth in a technology-focused environment that serves both enterprise B2B clients and government customers.  

This leader is responsible for planning, creating and implementing the overall Go-to-Market strategy, in partnership with our Sales and Product leadership, to promote awareness for Planet’s products and services as well as our overall mission. Key responsibilities include leading a team to assess growing markets, trends and competition, in order to identify associated use cases Planet can commercialize, determine market potential and growth, and create Marketing goals and metrics that align with company goals and objectives with clear plans and KPIs. Critical to the success of the leader is fostering close collaboration across Marketing, Product, and Sales globally to ensure consistency from Demand Generation through to Sales Enablement for consistent cross-functional GTM activities.  

This is a full-time position working on a hybrid basis from our headquarters in San Francisco, CA.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies to enhance Planet’s brand visibility and drive customer acquisition across both enterprise B2B and government sectors.

  • Oversee all marketing functions, including Growth/Digital Marketing, Content Creation, Product and Industry Marketing and Regional/Field Marketing, optimizing program mix across channels to drive awareness, demand and influence pipeline.

  • Position and message Planet’s Mission and Product vision to a global audience cross-cutting multiple vertical market sectors, validating messaging with a market-in lens.

  • Lead market research initiatives to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape specific to enterprise and government markets.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vertical market go-to-market teams to align marketing strategies with business objectives and product launches catering to targeted customer segments.

  • Manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to achieve maximum ROI in both market areas.

  • Build and mentor a high-performing marketing team, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation.

  • Analyze campaign performance and leverage analytics to optimize marketing efforts and improve engagement among enterprise and government audiences.

  • Plan and execute target account-based marketing strategies for key government and enterprise accounts.

  • Serve as a primary spokesperson for Planet’s brand at industry events and in media engagements focused around our targeted sectors.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field

  • 15+ years of progressive marketing or go-to-market (product, sales, marketing) experience, with 8+ years in a leadership role within a technology or data-driven company

  • Proven experience in campaign management, digital marketing, and brand strategy, particularly in B2B and government sales

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to leverage data to drive decision-making

  • Proven ability to think creatively and strategically, with experience applying market research and analysis to go-to-market planning and execution

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for storytelling

Compensation:

The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below.  Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (commission, bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.  The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.  Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
