Position overview

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Vice President (VP) of Risk Management to join our team at Xapo Bank. In this critical role, you will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust risk management frameworks to protect Xapo Bank and its customers. This critical leadership role is tailored for a finance-focused risk management expert who will drive the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, ensuring the bank’s stability and long-term growth. The ideal candidate will design and oversee robust financial risk management frameworks, addressing areas such as liquidity, credit, market, and capital risks, while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will influence the financial health of Xapo Bank by aligning risk strategies with business goals and regulatory requirements. This remote position offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the risk landscape of an innovative FinTech company at the forefront of digital banking and crypto finance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement financial risk management strategies, policies, and frameworks that safeguard Xapo Bank’s financial stability and align with its strategic objectives.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing team of risk professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, integrity, and growth that reflects Xapo Bank’s values.
• Oversee the identification, measurement, and monitoring of key financial risks, including liquidity, credit, market, and capital risks.
• Collaborate with the Executive Leadership team to align risk management priorities, budgets, and objectives, ensuring these meet Xapo Bank’s strategic goals and vision.
• Collaborate with Finance, Treasury, and other relevant teams to ensure alignment between risk management and financial planning, capital allocation, and investment strategies.
• Design and execute effective financial risk mitigation tools and techniques, ensuring resilience against internal and external financial pressures.
• Analyze risk data, financial models, and market trends to provide actionable insights for senior leadership, supporting informed decision-making and strategic planning.
• Maintain oversight of stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital adequacy planning to evaluate and mitigate potential financial risks under various conditions.
• Establish metrics, key risk indicators (KRIs), and reporting mechanisms to track risk exposures and performance, delivering regular updates to the Board and stakeholders.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing clear, actionable insights and recommendations on risk-related matters that drive Xapo Bank’s mission forward.
• Maintain oversight of stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital adequacy planning to evaluate and mitigate potential financial risks under various conditions.
• Foster strong relationships with regulators, auditors, and industry bodies, ensuring transparency and alignment with financial risk-related requirements.

Skills needed

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
• 7+ years of executive-level experience in financial risk management within the banking or financial services sector, with demonstrated expertise in liquidity, credit, market, and capital risk management.
• Proven ability to design and implement comprehensive financial risk management frameworks, aligned with regulatory requirements and strategic business goals.
• Deep understanding of Basel frameworks, ICAAP, ILAAP, and other regulatory risk standards applicable to banks and financial institutions.
• Strong analytical skills, with a track record of using data-driven insights and financial models to influence decision-making.
• Knowledge of crypto finance, including the mechanics of BTC, digital asset risk, and VASP regulations, is highly desirable.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to distill complex financial risk concepts into actionable strategies for diverse audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, to effectively interact with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Robust analytical capabilities and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Thrives in an evolving, fast-paced environment, showing resilience and flexibility in response to changes and challenges.
• An understanding of the mechanics of BTC and the related challenges of wallets, flows and regulations in the Crypto landscape. Exposure to regulations pertaining to a Bank and a VASP would be useful.
